Strengths and weaknesses 

Idea 1- My first idea is to make the front cover of my magazine horror film themed. If I use this idea, I plan to have one main model on the page with a serious expression to connote bravery and independence. 

Strength- This is appealing to teens and over, but stereotypically couples who rely on each other for protection. The front cover will be appealing with a mix of bright colours such as red, yellow, and white over a black background. Since the model on the front looks brave since she is alone in a scary place, she appears dominant and this will appeal to a female audience and will likely attract them to my magazine

 

Weakness- A dark image may be difficult to see from afar which could potentially be unappealing to an audience. Another weakness with this idea is that it mainly focuses on a female audience with the main model and may not be as appealing to a male audience.

 

Idea 2- For my second idea, I was planning to make the front cover a fantasy style film cover with a mix of strange effects and clothes. The model would be wearing clothing that is stereotypically seen in fantasy films and not modern ones. 

Strength- This is appealing to a mass audience, children, and adults. For example, families watch avatar which is a fantasy like film. My magazine will appear more creative and appeal to everyone as this genre of film can vary in storyline. This also gives me the free range to design it however I please since the fantasy trope doesn't stick with one theme or 'rules' than a realistic movie magazine page would.

 

Weakness- This I very time consuming and would be difficult to pull off. The location is in Sheffield, and I don’t have access to an area suitable for this magazine design idea. A stereotype of a fantasy themed film is that everything is brightly coloured, which means my text won't stand out as much against all the colours that I would be using and it will likely make my magazine looked cramped / packed with too much going on.

 

Idea 3- lastly, my third idea was to make a music magazine with classical music. I was going to have a model with an instrument matching the music and posing. 

Strength-The strength of making a music magazine is that it is appealing to a target audience of musicians and those who listen to a specific style of music. The purpose is clear and understandable to the audience as the page will be specific to the genre / theme that I have come up with.

 

Weakness- The magazine is targeted at people in Sheffield, this means that I would only be targeting specific music fans, which is difficult to do, and it would have to be appealing enough to convince them to read my magazine. 

 

Overall, I chose my initial idea because it was the most effective out of the three and I believe that I am able to target a selected audience this way. The design of the cover will be appealing and suitable for the brief. I am targeting a mass audience with this front cover, but specifically partners or close families as they will be eager to watch it together.
